The One Thing That Multiplies

Writer's picture: Gracie CampbellGracie Campbell

How many times have you looked at someone and thought, “Wow, if I just had her ____ I would be happy?”

We all have thought this probably more times than we can count. We have all been convicted by something I like to call the one thing that multiplies. The one thing that if we had, we would suddenly be satisfied. The one thing that would make life worth it. The one thing that we just don't know how we could possibly live without. Then when we finally get the one thing there’s a new thing, and suddenly the one thing has multiplied to several things you now want.

We have this idea that if we just had certain things, we’d be happy. Most of the time, we see this on social media… you scroll through your feed and think things like,

“Wow she’s perfect.”

“How is she so lucky?”

“How are her and her boyfriend are so cute..”

“Why can’t I be her?”

“How does she have that many likes?”

“Why don’t I look like that?”

If you take one thing away from this, this is it. Instagram is really a highlight reel of our lives. I promise that everyone struggles with something at one point or another. Believe it or not… the girl you look up to so much struggles too!

So to the one who scrolls through their feed wishing they were anyone but themselves- you are perfect just as you are. Hear me out that everyone on your feed struggles just as much as you do, even if their pictures do not show it.

Have you ever chased after something you were just sure was going to make your life better, then when you finally got a hold of it… somehow it didn’t? Then you just felt empty.. And somehow it wasn’t anything like you had dreamed it to be. Yeah… me too.

I have heard this referred to before as false assumptions-- or things that you assume will make you satisfied but only end up disappointing you. We have to keep in our heads that even if we get that one thing it wouldn’t make us any happier or more secure. It’s time for us to understand what God thinks of us. Y’all.. know that you are special, not because of that one thing, but because We are His.

In reality, there will always be someone “better.” There will always be something we don’t have. But guess what? Life goes on. Make a choice today to love yourself for who God created you to be not to compare yourself to anyone else. You are beautiful and you are fearfully made to pursue a purpose that God has called you and only you to! Never forget how special you are. Ever.
