Loving The Things You Love

When I first started studying the word of God, I had this "picture" of Christianity in my head. I thought I needed to wake up early every morning and have a quiet time, and basically this whole person that I knew I couldn't be. I thought since I was a Christian I was supposed to be this "perfect" person and the thought of that gave me goosebumps because I knew I could never be perfect. Overall, I had it in my head that I was doing it all wrong.

Some things I enjoy...

I really like being outdoors. I love playing sports, writing calligraphy, spending time with my family, & i love the very end of sunsets, like after the sun goes down. I like road trips, enoing & i love doing fun things with friends!!

In all honesty, I thought I liked the wrong things, I thought I was enjoying all the wrong things because it wasn't part of the ideal perfect Christian I had in my head. Why do I enjoy sitting outside watching the sunset, why don't I want to go to the movies like my friends do? Why did I want to write calligraphy in my free time?

These thoughts flooded my mind and I was feeling shame that I was not like everyone else.

I thought once I became an attentive believer, I would enjoy different things, and I thought I would be this whole other person that I really wasn't, and still am not. But I have realized that it's okay to be different!

In all of this, I was really missing the big picture. That God is God no matter what you like, and how you praise Him. God is a part of everything. Not just certain things that we might notice these ideal "perfect" Christians do. God reveals himself to us in so many ways, it doesn't matter if you like the same thing as your best friend, He loves you for who you are & he uses our different "loves" as an outlet to show His glory.

So my point today is, it doesn't matter if you are different. Do not ignore the things you find God's pleasure in, because then you are ignoring his way of him revealing himself to you and his creation for yourself.

We're all here for a purpose, and we need to use what we love, to help us seek God's plan for our lives.  Be you and don't be ashamed of what you love!!
